🔎 F-2-R Dependent Family: Who Can You Invite?

Eligible family members are your spouse and minor children. Children must be unmarried.

The family members receive F-3-1R (Dependent Family of Regional Outstanding Talent) status, and their period of stay expires on the same date as the principal visa holder. Remember: when your visa expires, your family's visas expire as well.

Applications are not allowed in the following cases.

· A person who has received an extension of stay for departure or a postponement of the departure deadline

· A person who has stayed in Korea within the past 5 years under Regional Outstanding Talent status or as a dependent family member

· An illegal overstayer

📋 3 Requirements for Inviting F-2-R Dependent Family Members

① All family members must actually live at the same address

Dependent family members must actually reside at the same address as the principal visa holder as of the application date. Having only the same address on paper is not sufficient.

If the principal visa holder becomes eligible, after 2 years from the initial approval, to move to another depopulation area within the same metropolitan/provincial government, the family may move together as well.

② Residence in a dormitory is not allowed.

It is difficult to invite family members while living in a company dormitory. You must first secure an independent residence where your family can live.

③ If the family has 5 or more members, the income requirement increases

If the family has 4 members or fewer, it is sufficient for the principal visa holder to meet the applicable income requirement.

👨‍👩‍👧 Requirements for Spouse and Children

▶ Spouse: Complete KIIP Level 2 within 2 years

The spouse must maintain a genuine marital relationship with the principal visa holder and must also meet the good-conduct requirement.

There is one more requirement. Within 2 years after receiving the status, the spouse must complete Level 2 or higher of the Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP).

If this requirement is not met, each extension of stay may be limited to a maximum of 6 months. This means visiting immigration every 6 months, so it is advisable to start the classes soon after entering Korea.

▶ Children: Must attend school

School-age children must be scheduled to enroll in or currently attend an elementary, middle, or high school in Korea. Regular schools, foreign schools, and alternative schools are all recognized.

If this requirement is violated, the issue is not limited to the child's visa. The principal visa holder's F-2-R approval itself may be canceled. The only exceptions are cases where attending school is difficult because of long-term medical treatment or a severe disability. If the child enters Korea during the school term and cannot immediately obtain a certificate of expected enrollment, there is no need to worry. Obtain the approval first and submit the document at the first extension of stay.
