The Korean Ministry of Justice announced a new pilot project starting April 2025 that introduces Regional Special Visas tailored to each area's characteristics and talent demand.

Previously, visa requirements were uniformly applied nationwide. Through this pilot, each region can propose candidates under relaxed conditions to attract international talent, while helping foreign students study and stay more easily.

Ten regions were selected for the pilot program, which will operate through 2026. Local governments recommend eligible candidates, and the Ministry of Justice reviews and issues visas within allocated quotas.

Applicants not recommended must apply under the standard visa conditions.

Expected benefits include: Increased part-time work hours, eased financial requirements, permission for internships during academic terms, extended periods of stay. We will provide updates once detailed conditions are officially announced.

Depending on the outcome of this trial, quotas may be adjusted and the program may continue. Given growing demand to attract international talent, it's expected that the conditions will be further relaxed, and more regions may join.
