D-4-1 (Language Training) Visa Extension Guide

If you wish to continue residing in Korea, you must obtain an extension of your stay before the expiration of your current stay period.

    Extension Period

    • 1)

      The stay period will be granted considering the education schedule (no stay period exceeding the education duration will be granted).

    • 2)

      Individuals who suspend their studies (e.g., leave of absence) due to personal reasons or insufficient credits are restricted from extending their stay.

      Exceptions may be granted in cases of unavoidable circumstances such as illness or accidents.

    How to Apply

    • 1)

      Applications can be submitted up to 4 weeks before the expiration date. Visit the Immigration Office in person (residential area or school jurisdiction) or Apply online via Hi Korea.

    • 2)

      Through Institution Representatives

      A representative from your training institution can apply on your behalf. The representative must be a staff member of the organization where you are studying. Most extensions are processed through a representative.

    Required Documents

      Passport and Alien Registration Card.

    • 3)

      Certificate of Enrollment.

    • 4)

      Proof of Academic Progress

      Documents such as transcripts, attendance records, etc.

      ※ If attendance is below 70%, a handwritten explanation in Korean or English must be submitted.

    • 5)

      Proof of Financial Resources

      Only domestic accounts are accepted, with a balance of at least 5.5 million KRW.

    • 6)

      Proof of Residence:

      Documents such as lease agreements, accommodation confirmation letters, utility bills, or dormitory fee receipts.

    • 7)

      For Representative Applications

      Power of attorney, employment certificate of the representative, copy of the representative's ID, and a copy of the applicant’s passport or Alien Registration Card.

    Fees

    In-person application: 60,000 KRW Online application: 50,000 KRW

    Important Notes

    • 1)

      Applications made less than 3 days before expiration cannot be submitted through a representative.

    • 2)

      The current registered address must match the address on the submitted property contract or proof of residence.

    • 3)

      Applications must be submitted before the expiration date of the visa.

    • 4)

      The extended date does not need to be written on the back of the registration card. If necessary, visit the Immigration Office or obtain a certificate of alien registration from the local community center for verification.
