D-10 Visa
Internship activities are allowed under the General Job-Seeking (D-10-1) and Advanced Technology Intern (D-10-3) visa categories. Companies may evaluate work performance during the internship period to decide on formal employment.
※ Intern activities are not permitted for those under the Technology Startup Preparation (D-10-2) category.
Internship (Training) Conditions
Reporting Internship Initiation (Change)
Must be reported to the local immigration office within 15 days of the internship reason arising (via worker’s visit or fax: 1577-1346).
Although it is a post-approval system, failure to report within the deadline may result in penalties for both the employee and the company for illegal employment.
Internship Salary
Must be negotiated between the company and the intern at a level above the minimum wage.
Internship Duration
No limit on internship period within stay duration
Up to 1 internship for 1 year at the same company
Eligible Companies
Only companies that meet the requirements to hire workers under E-1~E-7 visa categories.
Required Documents
Passport, Alien Registration Card, Integrated Application Form, Internship Contract, Business Registration Certificate, Employment Insurance Subscriber List.
Important Notes
Internships are only permitted if the visa status has been changed from Study (D-2) to General Job-Seeking (D-10-1).
Internships are not allowed for individuals who transitioned from E-1~E-7 visas to D-10 or for those under the Technology Startup Preparation (D-10-2) category.
Benefits for Advanced Technology Interns
For those participating in Advanced Technology Intern (D-10-3) activities:
Economic Activity Support:
Interns may receive salaries or living expenses through employment contracts with hiring companies during their stay. Additionally, they may receive separate research stipends.
※ Part-time employment outside of the internship is restricted.
Study Support
If pursuing higher education at a Korean university, interns may be permitted to study upon submission of a Standard Admission Certificate.
For those who participated in Advanced Technology Intern (D-10-3) activities within the past 3 years
Employment Support:
Interns who completed at least 1 year of internship at domestic companies under the D-10-3 status and formally gain employment in their internship field, with salaries above the previous year’s Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, are exempt from academic and career requirements when changing to an E-7 visa.
Startup Support
Interns who completed at least 1 year of internship under the D-10-3 status and wish to establish a startup in their internship field are eligible for additional points under the Technology Startup (D-8-4) point-based system (15 points for research experience).
