Foreign nationals wishing to stay in Korea beyond their previously authorized period of stay must obtain an extension of stay permit.

  Eligibility Requirements

  E-7 For E-7 visa holders, an extension of stay is possible if the initial visa requirements are still met. In particular, the following conditions should be carefully checked:

  • 1)

    Wage Requirements : The visa’s wage requirements must be satisfied.

  • 2)

    Contract Duration : The employment contract for the foreign worker must be extended.

  • 3)

    Taxes and Regulations: There should be no tax arrears on the company’s part, and there should be no legal violations related to immigration by both the worker and the company.

  Reporting Procedure

  The report must be submitted in person at the jurisdictional Immigration Office/Foreigners’ Office (office/branch) from four months before the visa expiration date until the expiration date. If the extension permit application is submitted after the expiration date, a fine will be imposed.

  Required Documents

  • 1)

    Application form(link to application form), passport and alien registration card, fee (60,000 KRW)

  • 2)

    Employment contract (with exact specifications of the wage and duration)

  • 3)

    Proof of personal income

    - Certificate of Income (issued by tax office) or Statement of Withholding Tax on Wage Income (issued by employer)

  • 4)

    Copy of business registration certificate or certified copy of corporate registration

  • 5)

    Original letter of guarantee (if required)

  • 6)

    Proof of residence (lease agreement, accommodation confirmation, advance notice of stay expiration, utility bill, dormitory fee receipt, etc.)

    Proof of employer’s tax payment history, tax clearance certificate, and local tax payment certificate (to confirm normal business operations and no tax arrears)
